McAllen Parents Speak at Board Meeting, Nutrition Department Presents

McAllen parents spoke at last nights McAllen ISD school board meeting during public comment advocating for improvements to food served to children across the district. Here are the videos of each public comment given by parents in our group:

Following public comment, the board meeting resumed, during which the Child Nutrition Deparment of McAllen ISD presented a 5-year plan to change the food offering to students and increase speed-scratch cooking. However, this plan appeared to reduce whole foods served to our children, which remains a concern for us:

We were glad to see that there will be a reduction in minimally processed and processed food. One other major concern was that substantive changes to the menu, specifically breakfast, do not occur until the third year of the five-year plan. We feel that there are simple, achivable changes that can be made sooner.
